In addition to the design requirements, one of the challenges was to develop a construction that protects the generator against the elements, while allowing cooling by natural convection around the generator. Furthermore, it was a requirement for the turbine to be serviceable and maintainable by local installers.
DIS developed the bearing construction, the braking system, the crankshaft bearing, the interface for installation of the rotor as well as the cladding and cooling of the system.
DIS supplied 3D models of components and a complete documentation package containing the FEM analyses, traditional strength calculations, bearing - and bolt calculations.
